7th Grade Curriculum
Bible: Old Testament Survey
Old Testament Survey highlights the major people and events in the Old Testament. The course emphasizes the following: who God is, how He deals with the human race, His dealings with people individually, and His workings in and through the nation of Israel. God’s grace, faith, and redemption are the foundation of the study of the people and events of history enabling the students to draw relevant, meaningful lessons and principles that can be applied in their lives.
This course will stress grammar usage, in addition to the formation of paragraph and essay writing. Weekly vocabulary units of study are covered throughout the course. Students will read novels from the adolescent literature genre as well as literature from the Arthurian tradition. Units covering poetry, drama, and creative story writing will also be explored.
This is a pre-algebra course in which number theory, fractions, percents, integers, and rational numbers are studied. Geometry is included as well as some statistics and probability. Solving equations and graphing are explored.

Science: Life Science
In this course, God’s perfect, intelligent design is highlighted in every aspect of life including the most basic as well as the most complex of organisms. Cells, plants, animals, and their relationship to their surroundings are studied in a variety of ways. Every effort is made to provide hands-on experiences for the active and curious, seventh grade mind.
Social Studies: Ancient Civilizations
This course covers the ancient empires of Greece, Rome, and Africa and provides an in-depth study of Europe during the Middle Ages. Note-taking skills as well as historical analysis are emphasized.
The foundational elements form and value are introduced and reinforced in drawing, painting, and printmaking. Several art mediums are used, and the basic techniques on handling and controlling the materials are shown and stressed.
This course is a required seventh grade course designed to create a love and understanding of music as God’s creation, through the study of music history, music theory, and general music. Score study and listening experiences will be included. Students will explore Western (hemisphere) music from the year 400 A.D. to the present and complete at least one creative project pertaining to music history and visual representations of music.
Middle School Chorus
Students in Chorus will receive instruction and gain experience in choral singing. They will be required to memorize musical selections which will be performed at school concerts, the Fine Arts Festival, and several other concerts during the school day or after school hours. Part of the grade will be contingent on attendance and participation at all scheduled performances. Students will also study basic music theory concepts and be tested for understanding.
Middle School Band
In Band, instrumentalists apply the basic skills they have learned in the early years on their instrument to an ensemble environment. Techniques such as phrasing, intonation, interpretation, and critical listening are introduced and applied at an intermediate level. It is expected that students will continue with private music lessons so that technical facilities continue to mature in preparation for High School Band.
Option 1: Private Lesson Instruction
Note: Private instruction is required for ensemble participation
Private lessons on the violin, viola, cello or string bass are required. Thirty minute lessons are available at WCS on the violin and viola and are scheduled weekly on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, during the day or after school. Payments are made directly to the instructor. Students are allowed to study privately outside of WCS with another private teacher to fulfill the ensemble requirement. (See Option 2).
30 Lessons are provided yearly. Payment is calculated based on 28 lessons and should be submitted twice a year on October 1st and February 1st. Two lessons are included at no charge in the event of inclement weather or child illness.

Option 2: Ensemble Rehearsal
Requirement: Studying privately
This option is for students who are already studying privately (at WCS or elsewhere) Ensemble meets twice a week for 40 minutes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (30 rehearsals)

Home School Students: $400/year (30 rehearsals).
This course builds upon concepts learned in sixth grade Research Skills and prepares students to take on more vigorous research projects. Emphasis is placed on evaluating information for appropriateness, ethical use and citation of sources, and paraphrasing. Using print and electronic sources for specific assignments, students will gain practice in organizing and using primary and secondary information. Two collaborative in-class projects with Social Studies will help students to apply these skills and will prepare them for the National History Day competition in eighth grade.
The students will be required to apply their elementary computer instruction to projects based on their other instructional courses. The technology education instructor will work closely with the classroom teacher and librarian to develop a program specific to the needs of the students as they relate to individual courses.
This course will focus on instructing the students in healthy living and making good choices. The students will learn about their bodies and how the decisions they make affect their bodies physically, spiritually, and emotionally.
The Middle School sports and PE program will introduce students to a variety of sports and offer all students the chance to participate at a level that best meets their individual needs. Some students will participate competitively against other area schools; while others will be involved in an intramural program. We will strive to develop good sportsmanship and an appreciation and understanding of the rules of a variety of games and activities. Healthy lifestyle choices will be stressed.
